Where Does Your Business Actually Stand?

Most trades businesses know they need to improve their online presence — they just don't know where they are or what to do next. The MidcoastOps Maturity Model gives that gap a name, a cost, and a clear path forward.

01Context

The scanner shows you your score. The model shows you what it means.

The free Business Snapshot scan measures five dimensions of your online presence and returns a score from 1 to 5. That number is useful — but a number alone doesn't tell you why it matters, what you're losing, or what to do about it.

The Maturity Model translates your score into a ring — a plain-English description of where your business is right now, what the typical owner at that level is experiencing, and what it costs to stay there versus what changes when you move forward.

The five-ring progression

02The Five Rings

Every business is somewhere on this path

Each ring describes a real stage — what the owner experiences, what it costs to stay there, and what changes when they move forward.

Findable

RING 1

Core issue: Invisible lead loss

Right now, if a homeowner Googles your business name, they're not finding much — or anything at all. That's not a reflection of your work quality; it's a gap between how good you are and how you show up. Customers under

  • Google Business Profile unclaimed, or claimed but incomplete — missing hours, no description, fewer than 3 photos, no service categories, no website link
  • Google review count: 0–10; average rating is either not established or unreliably low from sparse data
  • Last review more than 12 months ago, or no reviews exist

Credible

RING 2

Core issue: Credibility leakage

You're findable — which puts you ahead of a lot of competitors. But what customers find when they look you up isn't quite closing the deal. Your Google profile has some reviews, maybe a basic website, but there are gaps

  • GBP claimed, but fewer than 25 reviews; last review more than 90 days ago; missing key fields (hours incomplete, no service list, few photos)
  • Review rating between 3.5 and 4.5 with low data density (easy to move in either direction)
  • Website exists but scores below 50 on PageSpeed mobile; no contact form or non-functional form; no SSL certificate

Responsive

RING 3

Core issue: Contact-point leakage

You look good online — genuinely good. Your reviews are solid, your profile is complete, and your website holds up. The problem is what happens after a customer decides to reach out. If they call and can't get through, o

  • GBP claimed, 25–60 reviews, recent review activity (at least one review per month on average), rating above 4.2
  • Owner response rate to reviews: low or zero — reviews are not being responded to
  • Website: professional, mobile-responsive, PageSpeed score ≥ 65; contact form functional

Systematic

RING 4

Core issue: Owner-as-bottleneck

You've got the front of the house in order — you're easy to find, you look credible, and you're not losing leads at the door. The growth constraint now is in the back of the house. How leads get tracked, how jobs get sch

  • GBP: 60–100 reviews, rating ≥ 4.4, consistent review velocity (2+ reviews/month average)
  • Review response rate: owner responds to 25–60% of reviews — shows awareness but not a system
  • Website: professional, PageSpeed ≥ 75, contact form or booking widget present

Scalable

RING 5

Core issue: Strategic growth ceiling

You've built a real business — one that looks great, responds well, operates on systems, and doesn't fall apart when you're not watching every detail. You're in the top tier of operators in your market from an online pre

  • GBP: 100+ reviews, rating ≥ 4.5, consistent velocity (4+ reviews/month), owner responds to 70%+ of reviews
  • Website: PageSpeed ≥ 85, professional, clear service area and service list, testimonials or case studies visible, booking or quote request workflow
  • Phone: always answered (live or AI) during business hours; professional follow-up protocol visible
